In July 2015 the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that the UK Government was to introduce a compulsory minimum wage premium for all staff over 25 years of age, and referred to it as the ‘national living wage’.

 

The government rate came into effect in April 2016 and has certainly given businesses a big problem.  Many companies have already overcome this by reducing their workforce costs through better workforce management. In some cases their costs are lower despite the increase caused by the living wage.
