One of the most pressing challenges for HR today is accommodating the multiple generations of the workforce. Put simply, it’s no longer enough to treat employees as if they are identical constituents. Younger employees and those about to enter the workforce can have significantly different expectations of employers than the older generations had. You need to know what kind of people are within your organisation and how they want and need to be treated.
You need to stop marching on with HR systems that are no longer fit for purpose. Many of them are character-based systems from the dark ages of software: they are difficult to use, even more difficult and expensive to adapt, and they leave little scope for employees to see what is going on in their records. Today’s HR systems are benefiting from a host of broader changes in what systems can do, and the ways in which systems are deployed and updated.
