Access Control is all about how people access places, rooms, areas, devices, equipment and data – from within an organisation, and outside of it. It’s fundamentally about keeping out the bad guys, letting in the good guys and making sure that people can only get to what they should be able to get to, both for their own sakes and for the sake of the organisation. It therefore encompasses several functions, including building security, identity management, business analysis and human resources.
Access Control can be fairly simple, very complex, or somewhere in-between. Choosing the level of sophistication will depend on various factors from your company’s size to headcount, budget and sensitivity, or value of assets and information held.
